I am a GS.

I am a gestational surrogate(GS).  There are two different types of surrogates.  One type is a traditional surrogate(TS).  A traditional surrogate uses her own eggs to create an embryo that has been fertilized by sperm from a donor or from the Intended Father(IF).  A gestational surrogate carries a baby that was created outside of the womb and then transferred to the uterus.  There are many reasons that an individual or couple may choose to utilize a surrogate.  Some examples are the absence of uterus, lack of success with IVF, sometimes a surrogate is used when an Intended Mother(IM) has a medical condition or has been advised by her doctor that a pregnancy would be dangerous to her or to the fetus.  Sometimes a surrogate is used when same-sex couples choose to have children.   Using a surrogate, whether traditional or gestational, is a huge decision and one that is not taken lightly.  Using a surrogate can be costly and often involves a great deal of time, energy, and patience.
